The Rise of Skywalker, the third instalment in the sequel trilogy, left many Star Wars fans wanting more, and when that happens, those same people usually step up to make things right. The Force ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, and Qui-Gon Jinn all return to stand with Luke Skywalker to put a stop to Emperor Palpatine once and for all in a new fan poster for the concluding film in the Skywalker Saga.

The Last Jedi seems to have set up Snoke as the main antagonist of the sequel trilogy, thus fans were unhappy when Snoke was quickly eliminated in The Rise of Skywalker. As a result, the return of Emperor Palpatine, who it turns out had numerous copies made of himself, explaining how he had been "killed" by Darth Vader at the conclusion of the original trilogy, seemed wholly inconsistent with the earlier films. Although the final confrontation between Rey and Palpatine—during which Rey heard the voices of Jedi who had died—was as stunning as any fight in the Star Wars saga, the conclusion simply didn't seem to be what audiences anticipated.

The collective Jedi would have formed an alliance in the film's last act to defeat Palpatine in a titanic final fight, according to Instagram user tilian creative's alternate ending. The complete pitch is contained in the post below.

The Star Wars saga has had to balance fan service constantly.

The Last Jedi's Yoda's ghost and The Rise of Skywalker's Han Solo made appearances in the Star Wars sequels, and in recent years, the saga has always had to tread a careful line between connected storyline and fan service. In the long run, this would have meant that scenes like Qui-Gon Jinn's reappearance in Obi-Wan Kenobi may not have had the same impact they did. It is possible that having the entire collection of Force ghosts return for one final meeting might have fallen into the latter category.

Of course, having such a large cast in the film's climax would have put a significant strain on the budget, thus opting for voice-over definitely helped to keep the price of the film manageable. Many Force spirits fighting alongside one another on screen at once would have been a fantastic scene, and it would have helped those people who weren't entirely satisfied with how the sequels finished out.

Since The Rise of Skywalker's debut

The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan Kenobi in particular, which got overwhelmingly positive reviews, have helped Lucasfilm's latest run of Star Wars shows on Disney+ turn around the franchise from the disappointment felt over the sequels. The question is whether the streak of success can continue and for how long given that the company is currently aiming to return to theatres.
